Day 4 – Get 100+ Twitter Followers in 24 Hours
Day 4 Twitter:
Well…. Here is Twitter by the Numbers
- Twitter started in 2006 and the beta version was built in only two weeks
- It’s estimated that nearly 6 million people frequently visit the site each month
- From February 2008 to February 2009 Twitter grew by 1328% (No, that is not a typo. 1328% growth over one year.)
- Twitter is valuated at over $250 million… And they have no revenue stream at this point.
- When Facebook redesigned their site (in March 2009), the new design was influenced because of Twitter. That is why you see the feed of status updates when you first login.
Ok… So that is great and all…. But what exactly IS Twitter?
Twitter goes by a variety of names. Some call it a microblogging service. Some call it a social networking site. Some call it a huge waste of time. (Those are the people who don’t understand it.)
Guy Kawasaki (one of the biggest Venture Capitalists in Silicon Valley) calls Twitter a “Marketing Weapon.” (Seriously… you should probably read Guy Kawasaki. He will teach you more about running a small business than anyone else online.)
But why would someone call Twitter a “marketing weapon”? I mean, that sounds a little intense, doesn’t it?
Here’s why: Twitter allows you to meet and target those people who are the exact prospects for your business. Not only does it allow you to meet them… but it allows you to start a conversation with them. And great marketing is all about starting a conversation first… and selling your products second.
I believe that good marketers create a dialogue with their customers. One way marketing messages (commercials, advertisements, high-pressure salesmen, etc) are a thing of the past. Social media is just that… It’s SOCIAL. Which requires dialogue. And dialogue is exactly what Twitter creates…
How Twitter is Different than Facebook/MySpace/LinkedIn
Now that you see how Twitter is laid out… you might be wondering, “What makes Twitter so different?“
Before I answer that, let’s look at the concept of traditional social networks…
Social networking was created for one reason. It was created so people can take their offline networks (like their friends and family) and re-create those relationships online.
Take Facebook for example. You only add friends on Facebook if you meet them in person. You wouldn’t add someone to Facebook if you didn’t know them. (At least, I hope not.) That’d be creepy, right? It’d be like “Facebook Stalking.”
But Twitter is totally different. When you follow someone you don’t know on Twitter, it’s like a virtual handshake. You’re basically saying, “Hey – How’s it going? I find what you’re tweeting about to be of particular interest.”
It’s OKAY to follow strangers on Twitter. (As weird as that sounds…)
That is what makes Twitter so completely different. While traditional social networks help MAINTAIN relationships you’ve already built…. Twitter actually facilitates building NEW relationships with people you’ve never met.
So if Twitter helps you build relationships with people… how will you know WHO to build relationships with? Great question…
Who You Should Follow on Twitter?
Let’s take a very basic example. Pretend that you are friends with Katie, but you don’t know about Jen. In real life (or on traditional social networks) you’d never know that Jen existed.
This is where Twitter shines. Because of Twitter, you can see the conversation that Katie and Jen are having. If that conversation interests you, you can start following Jen. Because you have something in common with Katie, you might have something in common with Jen. And that is the beginning of the conversation… and the beginning of a relationship.
Let’s take a little more practical approach. Pretend that Katie sells earrings and Jen is a customer of hers. They are chatting about different styles of bracelets and ones that would make a good match.
And it just so happens that you are selling a necklace… Wouldn’t you want to know that Jen is interested in buying a matching necklace? Now you don’t want to start by saying, “Jen – buy my necklace.” That’s not how it works. But what you can do is start a CONVERSATION with her. Ask Jen about what she does or something that you have in common. Then, after the relationship is established, she’ll want to know a little bit more about you. And that is when you can explain a little bit about the products you create on Etsy. And that can be the foundation for your relationship… which is what social media is all about.
Okay… so let’s look at some screen shots from my Twitter channels.
There are few thing to notice… First is the link to my sites in the about section. Second, key words in the bio section, and info on the background letting your readers know what your channel is about.
@timothyadam ::
@handmadeology : Here is a zoomed in view of handmadeology’s info box. Notice the direct link to the website… this is SO important. About 30-50 hits per day are generated through that link on my channels. Don’t leave it blank. Also notice the key words in the bio.. Etsy, Art Fire, Traffic, handmade… having these key words will help you gain more targeted followers.
@handmadenews : You can see that this channel is all about handmade news. In the bio you can see key words that will bring the right followers through the search. I will also notice the avatar for this channel is not a picture of a person, but it flows with the channel. Try different avatars … poll your followers and see what avatar they like best.
Did you know? When you first start your Twitter channel you are automatically set up to receive update emails to your personal email. These emails just updating you when followers follow you and when you get a direct message. These are great for the first 10 mins… when you get enough followers, you’ll want to turn these off so you don’t constantly get bombarded with emails. Below you will find a screen shot on how to turn these notice off.
Now on to what you have you have been waiting for……. Get 100 followers today!!!
Crunch the numbers on this… 100 followers per day = 3,000 followers in 30 days…. easy math right?
I am going to break this down for you step by step, so you can follow the formula and grow your Twitter channel:
- Step 1: Follow My Followers
- Make sure you are logged into your Twitter Account. Then click HERE to go to my Twitter Channel.
- Next You want to click on my followers… you should see a screen like this:
*You must follow these next steps to a T*
- Follow all the Twitter channels on the first 3 pages. STOP there…… wait 1 hour.
- Follow all the Twitter channels on the next 3 pages. STOP … wait another hour.
- Follow all the Twitter Channels on the next 3 pages STOP… wait one more hour
- Follow all the Twitter Channels on the next 3 pages STOP …. wait yet another hour.
- Follow all the Twitter Channels on the next 3 pages Last time for today
This will take you about 20 minutes out of your day. Not bad!! At the end you will have followed around 300 Twitter channels.
These channels have followed me back after I followed them, so they are likely to follow you back.
(The reason we are stopping and waiting is you don’t want to over load your follow limit per hour.) This is the EXACT system that I have followed to gain my Twitter following on all my channels!
2. Step 2.
Head over to TwitterMass.com
This is where you are going to find your targeted followers. With your FREE Twitter Mass account you can set up an auto system that will follow anyone who Tweets about specific words.
I like to auto follow Tweeters that tweet about Etsy, handmade, and art.
Here is a short walk through on setting up a TwitterMass account.
First create your account… then click on toolbox…
So that is all about Twitter. Definitely make sure you check out TwitterMass. That could be one of the most powerful Twitter tools out there.
I really hope you enjoyed today’s content. I know Twitter can be a beast if you haven’t used it before. But be patient… the more you use it, the more you’ll understand.
On a side note… Watch for tomorrow’s email. Make sure that support@handmadeology.biz is on your safe list because tomorrow’s content is going to be AWESOME!
Like I mentioned, I completley changed tomorrow’s content because of all the comments and emails I’ve been getting… You definitely won’t want to miss it!
================================
By now you know of Handmadeology University and the books that come with your membership (like the HMU Guide to Twitter.) What you may not know is this: we have monthly coaching or “mastermind” calls. It’s very simple. Each month I’ll get on the phone with all of our members to discuss what new technologies they should be watching out for. Sometimes we’ll do Q&A. Sometimes I have enough content to talk about for the entire hour.
Either way, members have found these coaching calls to be EXTREMELY valuable. If you have questions about the membership, please email me personally at support@handmadeology.biz I’ll try to answer them as soon as I can.

I understand how having many Twitter Followers can help increase sales. However, I am following people because I’m geniunely interested in reading what they have to say. There is no way for me to keep up with all of those people. I also don’t have the money to spend on something like Twitter Mass (which I hate by the way – I don’t like people just randomly following me because I made a one time comment including one of their key words because they aren’t really going to go to my business). I think you should mention other online services like HootSuite which allow you to make a list of the people who you’re actually interested in hearing from instead of just using the main twitter.com site.
Now for my question: How on earth am I supposed to have time to create a dialogue with hundreds of people every day?
Sorry but I find this article confusing and a bit lacking in detail and helpful tips. I thought yesterday’s article had much more filling. I have a way to get more followers, but no advice on what I should be tweeting, how often, how to get those sidebars on your twitter page, etc.

This is great info but I’m wondering how to sort thru all the MASS of tweets and stuff that’s coming in now that I am following so many people.
It seems like a lot of the people that are following you are people touting their “get rich quick schemes” and some porn.
Do you go thru these and filter them out from time to time?
How do we manage soooo many followers and with all those tweets how do we find things were interested in?
A little confused…

Joined Twitter last Sunday. So far, I have found Twitter to be much easier than Face Book. Strongly agree that it is the “marketing weapon” for us that make handmade goods. Where else can one reach targeted individuals at NO cost.
Thanks for the heads up on Twitter Mass. Can’t wait to log in!
Again, Tim, you have supplied valuable information!

This is great content and I am working on all of it. I have one suggestion/question etc.
You recommend us to follow all who follow you; however, your followers have doubled since you wrote this article and after I took a look at your first page and followed most I got a lot of people selling their websites, blogs, howtos as well as a few porn. (not really my customer base and seemingly not interested in handmade though I guess hookers need jewelry too!)
Might there be another way? Maybe start from the back of your followers that we know you have filtered?
thanks!

Tim,
I love the information you have given! However, TwitterMass.com will not allow me access to it, saying that I have to try again and that I have tried to log into it from an unreliable website. I have tried it from both a search engine, and from the link you posted here and got the same result. I already have a twitter account, but I don’t know what is going on. Any ideas? Please email me at scorpionice362@gmail.com or convo me to let me know of any ideas I can do.
Thank you!
